Shevat is a month of hope and renewal. We begin to see the signs of Spring, and almond trees are the first to bloom in Israel. An almond is called a 'shaked' in Hebrew. Shaked can mean 'watcher'. Almond trees are said to keep watch in spring.
The almond reminds us to wake up and be a watcher for the things of the Lord. Pray about all that is going on in our world, our cities, our families. We need to be aware and crying out to the Lord at this time. Do not fall asleep, but wake up as the earth is waking up in the Spring and cry out to the Lord for salvation to come to those who are deceived and for those who believe the deception and are causing chaos. This is our responsibility and our joy as we work with the Lord to hasten His coming.
May He see us as dressed in His righteousness, conforming ourselves to doing the things that He would do, growing in love and good works that bring Him glory. He is watching over His Word to bring it to fruition.
Jeremiah 1:11-12 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 'Jeremiah, what do you see?' And I said, 'I see a branch of an almond tree.' Then the LORD said to me, 'You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.'
